TL;DR Overview of Weebly Review
In a hurry? No worries. Here’s the TL;DR version of our Weebly review…
- Weebly is a software company that sells a website builder and an eCommerce platform.
- The company was founded in 2007 on the belief that everyone should have the tools they need to take their business from idea to launch to growth.
- Weebly was acquired by Square in 2018, so if you are already using other Square products, it might be a convenient solution for you.
- The company serves millions of businesses and powers over 50 million websites worldwide.
- With Weebly, you won’t have to worry about the technical stuff like registering a domain name (free with Professional and Performance plans), choosing between shared and private hosting, picking a hosting plan, site security, etc.
The company takes care of all of that so that you could focus on growing your business.
- Weebly’s main strength is its drag-and-drop website builder that comes with a variety of stunning, customizable themes that were designed by top web designers.
- This website builder makes it easy for you to add advanced site elements to your website such as video backgrounds, video and audio content, site search, and more.
- It’s worth noting that, unlike some other website builders in the same space, Weebly accommodates users who know HTML, CSS, and Javascript. You can use these languages to customize your website any way you want.
This can also be helpful to entrepreneurs who don’t know how to code themselves but have a web developer on the team.
- Weebly comes equipped with blogging functionality. It’s certainly convenient and it’s enough to get the job done. But you’d probably be better off going with a specialized solution such as WordPress or Ghost.
- Likewise, its email marketing functionality can help you build your email list, but it probably makes more sense to go with a specialized solution that was designed for your particular business model (ConvertKit for content creators, SmartrMail for eCommerce, etc.).
- Similarly, Weebly’s eCommerce platform is okay, you can definitely use it to set up an online store. It has all the basic features you need + some neat extras like gift cards, discount codes, a tax calculator, etc.
But you would probably be better off going with one of the major eCommerce platforms instead, such as Shopify, WooCommerce, or BigCommerce.
- Weebly has an App Center where you can find integrations with a variety of third-party apps as well as a few integrations with native apps built by Weebly but not included in their software by default.
While the App Center appears to lack integrations with some of the major tools, automate.io integration provides a solution to this problem by giving you access to 100+ integrations with popular web apps. - Weebly has four pricing plans. We love the free plan that has all the basic functionality that you need to get a website or an online store up and running. Meanwhile, paid plans start at $6/month (billed annually) or $9/month (billed monthly).
The pricing seems fair considering the functionality of the software.
- Overall, Weebly offers a great website builder and an okay eCommerce platform, so if that’s what you are looking for, you might want to check it out.
- However, websites are an outdated way of selling online. Sales funnels are a much more effective approach.
In fact, when we tested the former against the latter, sales funnels brought in 6x more sales on average. So why have a website when you could have a sales funnel instead?
- In our opinion, the best way to create a sales funnel that makes money is with our software. That’s what we used to build a $100M+ company. Will it work for your business? We believe so.
But don’t take our word for it. Sign up for our free trial and try it for yourself!

What is Weebly?
Weebly is a software company that sells a website builder and an eCommerce platform.
The company was founded back in 2007 on the belief that everyone should have the tools to take their business from idea to launch to growth.
It was acquired by Square 11 years later in 2018.
Weebly has been in business for 14 years now and their products are used by millions of businesses around the world.
At the moment, their software powers over 50 million sites.

Weebly’s Features
Weebly has two products:
- Website builder
- Ecommerce platform
Let’s take a closer look at the features of each…
Website Builder
Weebly’s website builder is without a doubt its main strength.
The software makes it easy to quickly create a beautiful website with absolute minimum technical knowledge (to paraphrase one happy customer, if you can create a social media profile, you can create a website with Weebly).
However, unlike some of the other website builders in the same space, this app also caters to those who do have web development skills.
If you know HTML, CSS, or Javascript, you can use those languages to go beyond the limitations of the drag-and-drop editor and customize your website even more.
Okay, so now that you have a general understanding of what Weebly’s website builder is all about, let’s discuss its features…
Technical Management
Tech isn’t your thing?
No worries. Weebly have you covered.
The company takes care of both infrastructure and security so that you could focus on growing your business.
Their technical management features include:
- Free hosting
- Free SSL security
- Free domain name with Professional and Performance plans
All this is great if you don’t want to deal with stuff like registering a domain name, deciding on shared vs. dedicated hosting, choosing a hosting package, etc.

Drag-and-Drop Website Editor
Weebly’s website editor has a drag-and-drop functionality which means that you can choose a page element from a menu, drag it to where you want it to be on your website, and simply drop it there.
You can also adjust the placement of various page elements with your mouse. This editor works similarly to image editors that you might be familiar with (e.g. Photoshop).
It’s probably safe to say that you will quickly learn your way around Weebly’s website editor even if you have never used one before.

Customizable Themes
This is where Weebly truly shines.
They offer a wide variety of stunning themes arranged by website type (business, portfolio, personal, etc.).
These themes were created by top web designers, which explains why they are so clean, modern, and beautiful.
All you need to do is pick one of them and then customize it using the website editor.

Custom Fonts
Weebly makes it easy to create a website that is unique not only with its themes but also with custom fonts.
While fonts may not seem like an important detail, they can have a tremendous impact on the look and feel of your website.
Being able to choose from a variety of fonts, experiment with them, and pick the one that suits your brand the best is certainly valuable.
Advanced Animation Effects
Anyone familiar with web development will tell you that creating animations that work as they are supposed to can be a headache.
But Weebly makes it easy to liven up your website with animations, including advanced animation effects such as reveal and parallax.
Video Backgrounds
Video background is another web design element that looks cool but can be challenging to get right.
Weebly allows you to set a video background with just a few clicks.
Video and Audio Content
You can also add video and audio content to your website.
Some of the other website builders can be hit-and-miss when it comes to streaming video and audio, but Weebly can handle it without an issue.
This is especially important to content creators who want to make their content available not only on third-party websites but also on their own website (e.g. provide a podcast archive).
Site Search
Site search is a feature that visitors need because it makes it much easier to quickly find information that they are looking for.
It seems like such a simple thing, but we have all seen websites where the search function doesn’t work properly, so your visitors will likely appreciate Weebly’s site search that actually brings up relevant results.
Custom HTML, CSS, and Javascript
Okay, so if you aren’t sure what these terms mean, here’s a quick overview:
- HTML is short for HyperText Markup Language. It’s a way to format web pages so that they would look the way you want them to look.
- CSS is short for Cascading Style Sheets. It’s a way to format several web pages or an entire website at once without having to edit each page separately.
- Javascript is a programming language that is used to add dynamic elements to web pages.
HTML, CSS, and Javascript make up the basic web development “stack” that web developers use to create websites.
As we have mentioned previously, Weebly allows you to use these languages to customize your website any way you want.
This will be appreciated by the business owners who either intend to learn to code in the foreseeable future or have a web developer on the team.
Image Editor
Have images that you want to use on your website, but they need some editing?
With Weebly’s image editor, you can do that right there inside the app, you don’t have to pay separately for another tool to edit your images (e.g. Photoshop).
Blogging Platform
Weebly also has a blogging functionality that allows you to write, schedule, and publish blog posts.
While this is certainly convenient, we don’t recommend relying on it for your blog. It probably makes more sense to go with one of the major blogging platforms such as WordPress or Ghost instead.
Still, if you just want to publish blog posts without having to deal with third-party software, you can definitely use Weebly for that.

Email Marketing
Email marketing is the most effective form of online marketing there is.
Weebly comes equipped with email marketing functionality that you can use to start building your email list ASAP.
However, just like with blogging, we don’t recommend it. You would probably be better of using one of the popular email marketing apps.
You might want to look for an app that was designed with your particular business model in mind (e.g. ConvertKit for content creators, Drip and SmartrMail for eCommerce businesses, etc).
That being said, if you don’t want to deal with third-party software, you can use Weebly to grow your email list.

Digital Marketing Tools
There are also a few other online marketing features that allow you to integrate your website with the major social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram and optimize it for search engines such as Google.

Analytics
Everyone is talking about the importance of making data-driven decisions. But you need analytics to have that data, to begin with!
Weebly has analytics functionality that allows you to keep track of the most important metrics of your website.
Don’t want to deal with Google Analytics.
Then use Weebly’s analytics.
It probably has everything you need.

24/7 Email and Chat Support
Weebly offers 24/7 customer support via chat and email.
That is certainly reassuring because if something goes wrong, you want to be able to get help immediately.
After all, if people can’t reach your website, they can’t buy your products, so technical problems can cost you a ton of money in lost revenue if they aren’t resolved quickly.
Weebly Community
Weebly also has an online forum that they call the Weebly Community.
While it doesn’t seem to be all that active, it can be nice to know that there’s a place where you can ask for advice from fellow business owners who are using the same software as you.

Ecommerce Platform
Weebly’s other product is their eCommerce platform, although it probably would be more accurate to call it an eCommerce functionality add-on.
The website builder that we have just discussed is at its core, but there are also a bunch of eCommerce-specific features.

Online Store Themes
Weebly offers a variety of themes designed specially for online stores.
Just like all the other themes, they look amazing, but we wonder if they have been properly optimized for conversions. Sites that look great don’t always convert well.
That being said, we assume that the company must have done at least some conversion rate optimization, so these themes should be okay.

Ecommerce Emails
While all businesses that have an online presence should use email marketing, it’s absolutely essential for eCommerce. Why?
Because of the abandoned cart phenomenon.
Last year, the global shopping cart abandonment rate was 88.05%, meaning that 88.05% of all online shoppers who have put something in their carts did not finalize their purchases.
While cart abandonment is part and parcel of running an eCommerce business, some of that revenue can be saved with cart abandonment emails.
Weebly not only offers email marketing functionality but also provides an abandoned cart email template that you can use for this.
Shipping Tool
Weebly’s shipping tool helps you ship products both domestically and internationally by allowing you to see real-time shipping rates by carrier, address, weight, and quantity.
This information can be handy when you are trying to make the free shipping math work.
Inventory Tracking
There’s also inventory tracking functionality that includes advanced inventory management features such as bulk import and export.
Product Searches
Weebly makes it easy for your customers to search your online store and find the products that they are interested in.
This is important because online shoppers are used to great site searches because of Amazon. Your store needs to meet their expectations. Remember, if people search for a product and can’t find it, they will assume that you don’t have it.
Product Badges
Product badges allow you to indicate a product’s status.
You can let your customers know that it is out of stock, that there are few items left, that it’s on sale, etc.
This can help you avoid misunderstandings when you are running a sale for some products but not others.
Coupons
Coupons can be useful when you are running a promotion through a specific marketing channel.
Say, if you placed an ad on a podcast, you might want to create a coupon code specifically for its listeners.
That makes it easy to know how effective that particular marketing channel was.
Weebly has a coupon feature that allows you to create discount codes.
Gift Cards
Gift cards are becoming an increasingly popular present for various occasions, from birthdays to Christmas to weddings.
And it makes sense: who can know better what someone wants than the person in question themselves?
Weebly makes it easy for you to capitalize on this trend with its gift card feature.

Product Reviews
Everyone knows that you are biased when it comes to your own products.
That’s why potential customers will likely want to see product reviews before they buy something in your store.
Weebly allows you to collect and display reviews, which should help you increase the conversion rates of your product pages.
Checkout
Weebly allows you to accept payments with:
- Square
- Stripe
- Paypal
It’s probably safe to say that these three options will be enough to meet the needs of the vast majority of your customers.
However, if you need a particular payment option that is popular in a specific region (e.g. China), you should do some research to see if it’s possible to provide it on a Weebly store.
There are also additional checkout features that make the checkout process easier such as a fully integrated shopping cart and automatic tax calculator.
Mobile App
Weebly has a mobile app that allows you to check on your business when you are on the go.
It can help you spot and fix problems before they snowball into complete disasters.
Weebly Integrations
Weebly has an App Center that features a wide variety of integrations with third-party apps:
These include:
- SEO integrations with Site Booster, Traffic Booster, and other apps.
- Marketing integrations with Aweber, Google Ads by Kliken, and other apps.
- Ecommerce integrations with JustUno, Patreon, and other apps.
- Sales integrations with Checkout Boost, Boost Sales, Sales Pop, and other apps.
- Social media integrations with Social Media Stream, Instagram Feed, Facebook Like, and other apps.
There are also integrations with several apps made by Weebly.

Overall, these integrations should enable you to significantly enhance the functionality of your website or online store.
However, it seems that Weebly’s App Center lacks integrations with some of the most popular apps that entrepreneurs use to run their businesses.
That being said, you can use automate.io to connect Weebly to 100+ web apps, so that could be a way to automate your workflow.
Weebly Pricing
Weebly has four pricing plans:
- The Free plan includes the basic functionality of the app.
- The Personal plan costs $6/month when billed annually or $9/month when billed monthly.
It includes everything in the Free plan + additional features such as connecting a custom domain, digital goods, shipping calculator, and more.
- The Professional plan that costs $12/month when billed annually or $16/month when billed monthly.
It includes everything in the Personal plan + additional features such as a free domain, removal of Square ads, advanced site stats, and more.
Plus, you also get access to phone support.
- The Performance plan that costs $26/month when billed annually and $29/month when billed monthly.
It includes everything in the Professional plan + additional features such as PayPal payments, item reviews, abandoned cart emails, and more.
You also get priority support.

Weebly’s pricing definitely seems fair when you consider the functionality of the software.
We especially like that the Free plan includes all the core features that you need to create a website or an online store and start selling your products or services.
This is valuable because it’s impossible to know how the market will respond to your offer before you put that offer in front of your dream customers.
Being able to create a website or an online store for free reduces the financial risk of testing your business idea.
You can always upgrade to a premium plan if people are interested in whatever it is that you are selling.
Weebly Case Study & Reviews
We try to be objective in our software reviews.
However, we are aware that we are biased when it comes to our competitors’ products, which is why we want to encourage you to seek out other opinions.

Third-Party Reviews:
The Best Weebly Alternative
Weebly is a great website builder. But guess what?
Websites are dead. Sales funnels are the future.
You see, the problem with websites is that instead of guiding the potential customer towards the purchase, they confuse that potential customer by throwing a bunch of links at them.
Think about it:
What happens when a potential customer arrives on a company’s website?
They see a navigation bar and start clicking around. They read a bit of this page. They read a bit of that page. Maybe they check out a blog article or two. And then they leave. Possibly to never come back.
How does all this help you grow your business? It doesn’t!

Meanwhile, sales funnels by definition guide the potential customer towards the purchase, one step at a time.
When the potential customer arrives on your lead magnet landing page, the next step is clear:
You want them to provide their email address in exchange for the lead magnet.
And the next step after that is clear as well:
You want them to click on the call to action button in your sales email.
And then the next step after that is also clear:
You want them to buy your product.
At any given time, you are only asking them to do one thing, which makes it a simple “Yes or No” decision.
Is it any wonder that sales funnels generate 6x more sales than websites (on average)?

So forget websites. You don’t need a link maze that confuses your potential customers. What you do need is a sales funnel.
And, in our humble opinion, the best way to build a sales funnel that makes money is with our software.
That’s what we used to build a $100M+ company.
So why don’t you give it a try? 😉

Is Weebly Right for You?
Weebly is a great website builder.
So if what you want is an app that would allow you to quickly build a beautiful website, it might be the right solution for you.
That being said:
Why would you want a website to begin with??
Once again:
Websites are dead. Sales funnels are the future.
So let your competitors have websites. Let them confuse their potential customers. Let them miss out on all that extra revenue.
You go and build a sales funnel instead. Be ahead of the curve. Grow your business faster than you ever thought possible.
