Have a B2C business?
Today we are going to share B2C sales strategies that can help you grow it faster than you ever thought possible!
Why the Value Ladder Sales Funnel Is the Best Way to Sell Anything Online
We believe that the most effective way to sell anything online is the Value Ladder sales funnel.
It was created by our co-founder Russell Brunson who then used it to take ClickFunnels from zero to $10M+ in annual revenue in just one year (it’s at $100M+ now!).
This sales funnel has four stages:
- Bait. You offer the potential customer your lead magnet in exchange for their email address.
- Frontend. You offer the potential customer your least expensive and least valuable product or service.
- Middle. You offer the customer a more expensive and more valuable product or service.
- Backend. You offer the customer your most expensive and most valuable product or service.
Ideally, you also offer a continuity program of some sort, meaning, a subscription product that generates recurring revenue.
We also recommend adding downsells, upsells, and cross sells to these core offers to maximize your revenue.

So the main idea here is this:
Instead of driving traffic directly to your website or sales page, you drive it to your lead magnet landing page and convert those visitors into email subscribers.
Then, once you have their email addresses, you pitch your products and services to them via email and drive traffic from your email list to your sales pages.
The reason why this sales funnel works so well is that it allows you to:
- Start the relationship with that person by offering free value.
- Nurture that relationship by continuing to provide free value via email.
- Build trust by providing progressively more paid value at each stage.
Here’s how Russell explains it:
How to Build a Value Ladder Sales Funnel for Your B2C Business
Okay, so now you understand the general idea of the Value Ladder sales funnel, but how can you build one for your B2C business?
Step #1: Create a Super Valuable Lead Magnet
A lead magnet is a freebie that you offer to the potential customer in exchange for their email address.
It can be anything that they can either download to their device or access online:
- A voucher.
- An ebook.
- A video class.
- A video course.
- An email course.
…etc.
Alex Hormozi, an entrepreneur who reached $100M+ net worth by his early 30s, argues that a lead magnet should provide a complete solution to a narrowly defined problem.
This is important because if you give someone a complete solution and they implement it, they are going to get value out of it. This builds trust.
Meanwhile, if you give someone an incomplete solution, they won’t be able to implement it because it’s incomplete. Consequently, they won’t get value out of it. This damages trust.
So identify a problem that your potential customers are struggling with and then give them a complete solution for free!
Alex shares his 7-step process for creating an effective lead magnet in this video:
Step #2: Create a Landing Page for Your Lead Magnet
You will also need a landing page for your lead magnet. This is the page that you will be driving traffic to with the marketing strategies that we are going to discuss later in this article.
A squeeze page, which is the most basic type of landing page characterized by being just one screen long, is probably your best bet.
We recommend using one of the proven, high-converting squeeze page templates from the ClickFunnels template library!
Step #3: Create an Irresistible Frontend Offer
While you can use an existing product or service as your frontend offer, we recommend creating a new product designed specifically for the purpose of converting leads into paying customers.
Here are three tips that can help you make your frontend offer irresistible:
- Make it an ebook. This applies regardless of whether you sell services, digital products, or physical products.
- Price it at $7. This price point is not low enough to make the potential customer question the quality of your frontend offer but also not high enough to make them stop and think twice before buying.
- Remove all financial risk by providing an unconditional, no-questions-asked 30-day money-back guarantee. This ensures that the potential customer doesn’t have anything to lose by checking out your frontend offer. Worst-case scenario, they will simply get a refund!
That way, your frontend offer will be accessible immediately, inexpensive enough to buy without thinking, and come without any financial risk. Ideal impulse purchase!
Something to keep in mind here is that once you convert a lead into a paying customer with a $7 ebook, it becomes much easier to sell them your more expensive products and services.
So don’t get hung up on the low price point. Remember that the purpose of your frontend offer isn’t to make you loads of money, it’s to convert leads into paying customers. The real money is in the Middle and Backend stages of the Value Ladder!
Step #4: Create a Sales Page for Your Frontend Offer
You will also need a sales page for your frontend offer.
ClickFunnels template library features proven, high-converting sales page templates. Whatever it is that you sell, we are confident that you will find a suitable template for it!
As for sales page copywriting, here are some of the basics that you need to get right if you want your sales page to convert:
- Headline. Your headline should convey the value of your frontend offer. How will it make the potential customer’s life better? Lead with that.
- Body copy. Appeal to the emotional buyers first with emotion-driven copy, then to the logical buyers with benefit-driven copy, and finally to the fearful buyers with scarcity-driven copy.
- Social proof. Provide as much social proof as you can in the form of customer testimonials, endorsements from well-known people, and “As Seen On” media badges.
- Call to action. Use offer-specific call-to-action button copy (e.g. “YES! I Want [Your Frontend Offer]”) instead of generic copy (e.g. “Buy Now”).
- 30-day money-back guarantee. Make sure that your money-back guarantee is explained clearly and is featured prominently next to the call-to-action button. It should be impossible to miss!
There’s much more to sales page copywriting than that but unfortunately, we can’t adequately cover this subject in this article due to space limitations.
But if you want to learn how to write copy that converts, we highly recommend our friend Jim Edwards’ book “Copywriting Secrets”. You can get it for FREE. All Jim asks is that you cover the shipping!

Step #5: Create an Upsell and a Cross Sell
While it’s not strictly necessary, we do recommend adding an upsell and a cross sell to your frontend offer.
An upsell is an upgrade on the offer that the potential customer has already accepted, the classic example being McDonald’s infamous “Would you like to supersize that?”.
An easy way to create an upsell for a $7 ebook is to offer an ebook + print book + audiobook bundle.
A cross sell is a product or service that is complementary to the offer that the potential customer has already accepted, the classic example being McDonald’s famous “Would you like fries with that?”.
So think about what would complement your $7 eBook and then sell that as a cross sell. Ideally, it should be something that can help the customer implement what they learned. Software, services, and private consultations can all work well as cross sells.
Step #6: Create a Six-Email Welcome Sequence
We don’t recommend hitting the potential customer with a sales pitch the moment you get their email address. You haven’t built enough trust yet!
Send them this six-email welcome sequence instead:
- Email #1: Who Are You? Introduce yourself to the new subscriber.
- Email #2: Where Did You Come From? Share your origin story. How did you come to do what you do now?
- Email #3: What Do You Do? Explain in more detail what it is that you do.
- Email #4: How Did You Gain This Expertise? Explain what makes you qualified to do what you do. Share relevant experience, credentials, and accomplishments.
- Email #5: Who Do You Do This For? Explain who your dream customers are + share a case study on how you helped such a person get the results that they wanted.
- Email #6: How Can You Do It For Me? Pitch your frontend offer and provide a link to its sales page.
We recommend using the Hook, Story, Offer copywriting framework that we use in our own emails:
- Hook. Grab the potential customer’s attention with a compelling subject line.
- Story. Tell them a captivating story that resonates with them on an emotional level.
- Offer. Transition from the story to your sales pitch and end the email with the call to action.
Here’s how Jim Edwards, our friend and the author of the previously mentioned book “Copywriting Secrets”, explains this framework:
You want to end emails #1-5 by asking a question and encouraging the potential customer to hit the reply button and let you know what they think. This will help you create more trust, especially if you respond to their emails.
Then end email #6 by encouraging the potential customer to buy your frontend offer and providing a link to its sales page. It can either be a hyperlink or a call to action button.
How to Drive Traffic to Your Value Ladder Sales Funnel
Okay, so now that you have your sales funnel, it’s time to start driving traffic to it.
Here are three effective marketing strategies that can help you do that:
B2C Marketing Strategy #1: Social Media Marketing
Social media marketing is the best place to start if don’t have much of a marketing budget to speak of.
While every social media platform has its own peculiarities, the general process of building a social media following remains the same across all of them:
- Create a content schedule that you can keep up with indefinitely.
- Commit to that content schedule and adhere to it religiously. You can produce content in batches and then use social media scheduling tools like Buffer or MeetEdgar to schedule and publish it.
- Ensure that each and every piece of content that you publish provides value to your followers.
- Use your social media to promote your lead magnet but don’t be obnoxious about it. Providing value to your followers should be the main focus.
- Interact with your followers. Ideally, you want to respond to each comment, tweet, and reply that you get.
We recommend starting with one platform and focusing on it exclusively for at least 18 months.
This should give you enough time to learn the ropes, develop workflows, and streamline the process.
You will probably also start gaining momentum and growing your following will become easier.
Expanding to other platforms before you reach that “escape velocity” point may be unwise because it’s difficult to fight several uphill battles all at once. Keep in mind that spreading yourself too thin will only halt your progress!
B2C Marketing Strategy #2: Paid Advertising
Paid advertising is the best place to start if you have a solid marketing budget and can afford to burn money on ads until you get it right. It will take some trial and error!
All major social media platforms allow you to run ads so choose the one that makes the most sense for your business, set up a campaign designed to promote your lead magnet, and start running it with a small daily budget.
Once you figure out how to run ads profitably, you can begin scaling your campaign by gradually increasing its budget.
Then, once you have streamlined your campaign on that platform, you can start expanding to other platforms using the same approach.
B2C Marketing Strategy #3: Influencer Marketing
Influencer marketing might be worth experimenting with on top of paid advertising if you have the money for it.
Identify promising micro (1k to 10k followers) and nano-influencers (10k to 50k followers) in your niche, reach out to them, and agree on three shoutouts promoting your lead magnet.
These shoutouts should be spread out over the course of three months at a frequency of one shoutout per month.
Make sure to give each influencer a special link so that you can see exactly how much traffic they are driving to your lead magnet landing page.
Then look at the conversion rates for that traffic. What percentage of those visitors converted into leads and then into paying customers?
Do the math and see if it makes sense to continue working with these influencers. Ideally, you want to develop ongoing partnerships with several influencers who can help you reliably generate high-quality leads.
