A hook can be a headline, an image, a video or anything else that catches your attention. It can also be the combination of any of those elements.

The goal of a hook is to get your attention and stop you from scrolling. Think about a fishing hook designed to catch fish. Here, fish are prospects.


Once you have the prospect’s attention, tell the story. The story is a continuation of the hook. For squeeze pages, this is the page they land on when they opt into your list.

Step #2 — Build a reverse squeeze page with a testimonial or case study

Once you have a client, build out a reverse squeeze page using a video testimonial or case study. Ask them to opt-in for a special offer.

Step #3 — Build a simple application page

The second psychological principle at work here is the principle of consistency. This means that when you get someone to say yes to you, they’re far more likely to say yes to the next thing. That’s why 2-step tripwires offer a low-priced offer on the front end, with an upsell at the next step.

The upsell is based on the next problem that occurs as soon as the customer purchases the first item. Let’s say the first product you sell them helps them get more traffic to their website. Maybe the next product is designed to help them convert that traffic.

Step #1 — Pick a low-ticket product you can sell that solve a problem

For example, if you’re a roofing contractor, the frontend product might be a DIY 12-point guide for inspecting a roof for replacement. It might give away all the tricks of the roofing trade and set you up as an authority. This is sold at a very low price.

Step #2 — Build a 2-step tripwire page

The 2-step tripwire requires a low-ticket frontend product. When a prospect doesn’t know you, it’s easier to justify buying something for a few dollars rather than a few hundred dollars. This product must solve one of several problems the prospect is facing.

Once you get the prospect to buy the low-ticket frontend offer, you can create a one-time offer (OTO). An OTO is just an offer that shows up that only appears once. This creates scarcity. You inform the prospect that they will only see this one time, and if they leave that page it’s gone forever.

This is a great way to sell a higher-ticket product or service on the next page. But it has to solve the next problem not the first one. So if you sold a roof-inspection guide on the first page, maybe you sell roof installation or solar panel conversion on the next page.

The point is that you got them to buy something that solves the first problem, now you make an offer for the second problem. If you’re in marketing, the first product might be related to traffic to your website. The next one might be related to conversions. You see how this works, right?

Step #4 — Create an offer wall thank you page

The final step is your thank you page. This is the page where a buyer lands once they finish their purchasing. This includes language thanking them for the purchase. But it also features an offer wall. These are just any other offers available for them to buy.

This is a passive way for you to make money by getting them to buy more of the products, services or information that you’re selling.
